The entire freshman class from Whitefish High School ventured out to the Whitefish Trail where students got a chance to experience lessons in forestry conservation, trail maintenance, and fitness.
The goal was to get kids outside and having fun while being active. Instructors utilized hands-on, experiential education techniques to engage the students in lessons while being outdoors.
Whitefish Legacy Partners coordinated with partner groups to bring out professionals from the community to serve as instructors for the Freshman Academy. Montana Conservation Corps led the trail maintenance experience, the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation taught about working forests and sustainable forestry practices, and The Wave and the City of Whitefish coordinated the fitness portion of the day.
Everyone had a great time despite chilly temperatures! Whitefish Legacy Partners is excited to give local students the chance to explore the Whitefish Trail and better understand the value it offers our community as a recreation, conservation, education asset.
