National Trails Day is a nationwide event to celebrate local trails, trail crews, and volunteers. Last year 700 events were hosted across the country, including one on the Whitefish Trail. This year, Whitefish Legacy Partners is celebrating National Trails Day at Lion Mountain! On Saturday, June 7, from 9am to 12pm, community volunteers are meeting at Lion Mountain Trailhead to address trail widening issues causing resource damage. For the past several years, we have noticed more and more trail creep - vegetation along the trail gets damaged and needs attention. To address trail creep at Lion Mountain, together we will plant native seed and install short sections of wooden rails in the trouble areas. Come on out with your friends and family to help us complete this important trail project, enjoy the outdoors, and celebrate National Trails Day with WLP! Whitefish Legacy Partners will provide free coffee and snacks to kick off the workday and will have WT merchandise giveaways at the trailhead at 12 noon. Please email whitefishtrail@whitefishlegacy.org to RSVP.
