If you have visited Smith Lake recently, you may have noticed construction work happening down at the south end of the lake. This first phase of construction will replace disturbed areas and eroded trails with new sustainable trail, a viewing platform, a bench, and a dock to provide water access for anglers, hand-carry boaters, and swimmers. This first phase is scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer.
In upcoming years we plan to expand the Whitefish Trail around Smith Lake and Swift Creek and will create an additional trailhead at East Smith Rd. accessed from East Lakeshore Drive. Ultimately, Smith Lake will once again be a valued family-friendly recreation destination on public land just minutes from town.

It's great to see these lakeshore improvements moving forward. Projects that restore trails, reduce erosion, and improve public access help protect natural spaces while making them more enjoyable for visitors for years to come. Adding features like viewing platforms and improved water access is a thoughtful way to balance recreation with conservation. On a different note, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners looking for dependable training gear often choose an rvca jiu jitsu gi for its comfort, durability, and performance on the mats.
