Join us for National Winter Trails Day

Saturday January 12th: 10am-2pm

Get outside with your family on National Winter Trails Day! Join Whitefish Legacy Partners at Stillwater Mountain Lodge, just minutes from downtown Whitefish, for a day of cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and winter fun! Cross-country ski on Stillwater Nordic Center’s groomed trails or hop across the road to snowshoe on the Whitefish Trail- Beaver Lakes Trail System. Ravenwood Outdoor Learning Center will lead construction of a quinzee snow shelter and offer family friendly games and activities. Bring your own equipment or demo equipment on site from Stillwater Mountain Lodge and Sportsman & Ski Haus. This is a FREE event open to the public! How much does it cost to demo cross-country skis and snowshoes?

Thanks to our event partners all equipment will be free of cost.

Where do I go to get the cross-country skis and snowshoes?

Pick up equipment at Stillwater Mountain Lodge and Nordic Center before heading out to ski on Stillwater’s nordic trails or snowshoe on the Whitefish Trail-Beaver Lakes Section.

Will I have to pay a user fee for Stillwater Nordic Center and the Whitefish Trail- Beaver Lakes trails?

Nope. Stillwater Nordic Center and Montana DNRC will waive user fees for Stillwater’s groomed nordic trails. Use of the Whitefish Trail is free year round.

What type of trails can I expect?

Stillwater Nordic Center offers 15 miles of skate and track skiing, including 7.5 miles of dog friendly trails, groomed daily.

Whitefish Trail– Beaver Section offers over 5 miles of single track trail and the option to connect with additional sections of the Whitefish Trail. Whitefish Trail is dog friendly.

What makes this event family friendly?

This event is a great opportunity for beginners and families to try cross-country skis and/or snowshoes. When not cruising the trails, join Ravenwood Outdoor Learning Center, at Stillwater Mountain Lodge, for family friendly games and activities. They will also be building a quinzee snow shelter throughout the day.

Will there be instruction available for beginners?

We hope to have formal lesson opportunities in the future. When you pick up your equipment you will get an overview of how to use it. Also, feel free to ask anyone working the event and they can give you some additional quick tips. The event is to get people excited about winter recreational opportunities, so we’re more than happy to help!

What should I bring?

Be prepared with warm clothing (dress in layers), wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots, and bring a water bottle.  Water will only be available at Stillwater Mountain Lodge.
