City Council to Review Smith Lake Public Recreation Use Easement Application

The next step in our work to permanently protect the lands around Smith Lake will be presented to the Whitefish City Council on Tuesday, September 6. WLP will provide a project overview and request Council support to submit the revised application for a ~600 acre easement including Whitefish Trail improvements to the MT DNRC . We hope you will show your support for this family friendly, quiet recreation opportunity and join us on Tuesday, September 6 at 7:10pm.

Once the application is submitted and the survey, appraisal, and negotiations are completed in upcoming months, the project will be presented again to Council for final consideration prior to heading to the MT Land Board late in 2023.

The Whitefish Trail runs through a mix of state, federal, and private lands. These cooperative partners seek to preserve public access, healthy forests, wildlife habitat and water quality on these open lands.
