2017 6th Grade Snow Science

The 2017 field trip season is officially underway! The entire 6th grade from Whitefish Middle School is attending interactive snow science field trips at the Whitefish Trail Learning Pavilion. We have partnered with the Flathead Avalanche Center (FAC), the United States Geological Survey (USGS), and the Flathead Backcountry Nordic Patrol (FBNP) to teach an intro to avalanches and a beacon hunt, snow crystals and stability in snow pits, and snow surveys calculating snow water equivalents.  We are busy finalizing all 2017 education programs, so look out for more outdoor learning opportunities soon!
