Field Trip Description

Lion Mountain Trailhead. Max 50 students/ 2 classes. (**If the available dates, times, and/or class size restrictions do not work for your needs, please do not hesitate to email us, so we can work on a solution.) *WHITEFISH LEGACY PARTNERS RELIES HEAVILY ON VOLUNTEERS TO MAKE FIELD TRIPS HAPPEN. BOOKING THIS FIELD TRIP DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOUR SPOT. WE WILL NOTIFY YOU THAT THE FIELD TRIP IS CONFIRMED VIA EMAIL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.* Field Trip Description: Students will explore and model the roles of the different parts of a food web related to the plants and animals on the Whitefish Trail. They will learn how to identify the trees in our local forest. Be prepared for a 2-3 mile hike. Essential Question: How does the matter that makes up plants and animals move around? Instructional Goals: 1. Understand vocabulary related to food webs. 2. Identify the key components of a food web in relation to the Whitefish Trail. 3. Identify trees on the Whitefish Trail. 4. Understand how each animal is part of a food web that can be used to explain how matter travels around in (cycles through) an ecosystem. 5. Create a model of a food web that exists on the Whitefish Trail using objects from the natural environment. Educational Standard(s): 5-LS2-1 Develop a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers, and the environment. 5-PSE-1 Use models to describe that that energy in animals’ food (used for body repair, growth, motion, and to maintain body warmth) was once energy from the sun. Overview: - Food Webs Activity - Tree I.D. Activity - Lunch at the Pavilion - Hike on the Whitefish Trail
