Whitefish gains Community Support for Legacy Lands Initiative

City of Whitefish and Whitefish Legacy Partners Unveil Plan to Create Permanent Public Recreation and Conservation Areas on State Trust Lands

On Thursday May 10, 2012, the City of Whitefish and Whitefish Legacy Partners (WLP) presented an ambitious plan to permanently protect over 2,500 acres of the 13,000 acres of state trust lands from development and ensure public access forever to a full house of excited Whitefish residents at Grouse Mountain Lodge. The City of Whitefish and WLP sought public input regarding the land transactions, which would provide permanent public recreation and conservation in the Beaver Lake, Skyles Lake and Spencer Mountain areas, as well as continuing construction of the Whitefish Trail. Whitefish Legacy Lands will be the second collaborative project of the 2004 Neighborhood Plan, the first being the Whitefish Trail.

The City of Whitefish and Whitefish Legacy Partners are seeking input.  Please send all comments to info@whitefishlegacy.org.
