Summary from the Whitefish Community Foundation:
“The Whitefish Community Foundation set a new record high in giving to local nonprofits at the 2012 Grant Awards Presentation. More then 300 people watched as over $345,000 was awarded at the 12th annual Community Grants Presentation Event held November 1 at the O’Shaughnessy Center. Grant awards ranged from $500 to $6,000 from the Foundation’s Community Grants Fund, a competitive grant program. This year 60 grants totaling $151,000 were distributed from the Community Grants Fund, a 50% increase over last year’s funding of $110,000 to 48 organizations. Funding for the Community Grants Program comes from private donations, the annual Whitefish Duck Derby that raised $50,000 for grants this year, the Summer Art Social, and interest from the Foundation’s growing Permanent Endowment Fund…
An annual award created in 2010 from the bequest to the Foundation by Doris Schumm a long time Board member was also awarded at the event. The Doris Schumm Community Spirit Award which comes with a $1,000 grant was awarded to the Whitefish Legacy Partners. The award is selected each year by the Grants Committee with guidance from Surrey Schumm, Doris Schumm’s daughter. Previous recipients include Whitefish Lake Institute and the Glacier Nordic Club.
