Now is the perfect time to get out on the Whitefish Trail before Old Man Winter starts knocking on our door! Colors are changing at all elevations, and our hillsides have come alive with groves of golden larch. It has been wonderful to see so many smiling faces out on the trail system this month. Bikers are reveling in the perfect trail condition of the fall season, families are enjoying the changing colors, and trail dogs are loving the cooler weather!
Our volunteer Trail Crews and Adopt A Trail Crews have been hitting the trails hard in preparation for winter. The most recent work was done at Skyles where we owe a huge thank you to our newest Adopt-A-Trailhead Crew: Glacier Aquascapes! David and Jenny adopted Skyles Connection Trailhead and will be helping us keep it in tip top shape. REMINDER: Rifle hunting seasons for elk and deer starts this weekend - October 25 through November 30. Wear blaze orange and stay alert. Stay on marked trails where hunters expect to see people and avoid dawn and dusk when wildlife and hunters are most active.
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) has increased the availability of antlerless white-tailed deer hunting licenses in the Flathead Valley following the agency’s 2024 local detection of Chronic Wasting Disease in wild deer populations. The purpose is to decrease herd density and slow the spread of the disease. This means we may see more hunters on state DNRC lands this hunting season (including Spencer, Lion, Skyles, Beaver, Lupfer, Swift and Smith).
