Late September Trail Report

This week marks the official start of autumn with the fall equinox on 9/23. These past couple weeks have been picture perfect with light rains, crisper air, blue skies, and splashes of color throughout the landscape. Huckleberry bushes have turned a bright crimson and Western larch trees are starting to turn at lower elevations.

As the seasons continue changing, the calm mornings of Fall are often most appreciated at one of the many scenic lakes accessed from the Whitefish Trail. Cool mornings reveal glassy reflections of the surrounding landscape only broken up by the occasional rising trout. If you are looking for an outing where you can enjoy solitude, golden larch trees, and scenic views, we suggest visiting Smith, Woods, Dollar, or Little Beaver Lakes in upcoming weeks. Please always bring your bear spray and make your presence known around corners or through vegetation.
