Mother's Day Mushroom Hunt

Join us on a hunt for wild mushrooms!

Time & Location

May 10, 2026, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Swift Creek Trailhead, 320 Delrey Rd, Whitefish, MT 59937, USA

About the event

Spring rain always brings out the mushrooms!  Search for wild mushrooms and learn general classifications and identifying characteristics. Dale Johnson, who has been exploring the woods for wild mushrooms for over 30 years, will be leading this spring mushroom foraging expedition. Bring your bear spray and a basket to collect mushrooms. Guidebooks will be provided for hands on identification.

This program is free and family friendly! We know committing to plans can be difficult--your RSVP is appreciated but not required. When you RSVP, be sure to do so for each member of your party and cancel if you change plans.

ACCESSIBILITY: We are happy to chat--please reach out with any questions about accessibility! The education portion of this event will take place in the parking lot but searching for mushrooms will require travel on and/or off the trail. Swift Creek Trailhead has accessible parking spots and bathroom set on a gravel surface. The Swift Creek Trail is a single-track, dirt trail with minimal rocks and roots. This trail can be accessed by walking, using an off road mobility device, and wagons/strollers.
