About the event
Join us for a free trap release workshop with Montana K9 Safety! This workshop will provide you with the skills to remove your dog in the event it is accidentally caught in a trap. Topics include kinds of traps, trapping regulations, and tools needed to be able to effectively and quickly removed your dog from a trap.
The Whitefish Trail runs through State Trust Lands and US Forest Service lands where traps may be present. All trapping in Montana is regulated by Montana's Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks. Go to their page for more information: https://fwp.mt.gov/hunt/trapping
ACCESSIBILITY: We are happy to chat--please reach out with any questions about accessibility! Lion Mountain Trailhead has accessible parking spots and bathroom set on a gravel surface. We will travel on a single-track, dirt trail that starts at the trailhead and is ~.5 miles long with minimal rocks and roots, and we will end at the Learning Pavilion. This trail can be accessed by walking, using an off road mobility device, and wagons/strollers. For accessibility needs, a car can be driven to the Learning Pavilion as long as there is not snow on the road.
This workshop is free, but attendees must register in advance here: https://montanak9safety.com/ola/services/whitefish-trail-side-training-free-trap-release-workshop-1
For those interested, the Whitefish Trail in Haskill, from the Reservoir Trailhead and Big Mountain Trailhead, is entirely on City and Private lands where trapping, and other forms of hunting, are not allowed.
