About the event

Whitefish Legacy Partners is excited to host a weekend of running events on the Whitefish Trail! 

Saturday's 50k Mountain Ultra will start in Depot Park in downtown Whitefish, climb to the summit of Big Mountain via the Whitefish Trail in Haskill, and finish at the Great Northwest Oktoberfest in Depot Park in downtown Whitefish! Registration for the 50k Mountain Ultra is capped at 400 runners. Registration for 50k will close at 11:59pm on Friday, October 6 - there will be no day-of registration.

Sunday's Half Marathon, 10k, 5k, and family-fun run will explore the Whitefish Trail in Beaver Lakes, starting and ending at the Whitefish Bike Retreat.

PACKET PICKUP: 

The current registration caps are as follows:

  • Half Marathon = 200 runners
  • 10k+ = 125 runners
  • 5k+ = 100 runners
  • Family Fun Run = 50 runners

Registration for half marathon, 10k, 5k & fun run will close at 11:59pm on Saturday October 7th- there will be no day-of registration. No pets allowed on racecourse.

 Race Details SATURDAY OCTOBER 7TH - 50K MOUNTAIN RUN - Sponsored by Hammer Nutrition

Saturday October 7th - The 50k Mountain Run will start and finish at the Great Northwest Oktoberfest in Depot Park in downtown Whitefish. Runners will climb to the summit of Big Mountain via the Whitefish Trail in Haskill, Whitefish Mountain Resort trails, and Flathead National Forest trails. Runners will enjoy awards and after party at the Biergarten at Oktoberfest with free entry, free beer, and free food.

Of the 31 mile course, approximately 25 miles is on natural surface, single-track trails and 6 miles is on paved roads and separated bike paths leaving and re-entering the City of Whitefish. The lollipop/loop section at Flathead National Forest and Whitefish Mountain Resort is approximately 16 miles in length. Runners will utilize 5.5 miles of the Whitefish Trail in both directions to access Flathead National Forest and Whitefish Mountain Resort. See the approximate race course map. Total elevation gain is approximately 5,100 feet. We will provide a detailed map and GPS file for the race course.

All runners will receive a custom race buff (neck gaiter), entry into Oktoberfest, beer and food at Oktoberfest, Hammer nutrition products, and a custom 50k finisher patch. Awards to be announced.

For the safety of runners and volunteers, there will be a cutoff time of 10 hours to complete the course. Specific aid-station cutoff times will be announced. This race course travels through a high alpine environment up to 6,800 feet in elevation. The course could have high wind, snow, ice, and/or wildlife. We expect all runners to be prepared for inclement weather (no cotton clothing), and carrying bear spray is highly recommended. A limited number of bear spray canisters will be available to runners. No pacers allowed on course. 

This event is made possible by Flathead National Forest, the City of Whitefish, and Whitefish Mountain Resort.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 8TH - HALF MARATHON, 10K+, 5K+, AND FAMILY FUN RUN - Sponsored by Stockman Bank

Sunday October 8th -  the Half marathon, 10k+, 5k+, and family fun-run courses explore the Whitefish Trail in Beaver Lakes. The half marathon has about 2,000 feet of elevation gain spread out throughout the course, the 10k has about 750 in elevation gain, and the 5k has about 500 feet in elevation gain.

Food and beverages will be provided at a finish celebration. Awards will be given with categories to be announced. All runners will also receive a custom race buff (neck gaiter), Hammer nutrition products, and a custom finisher patch. Start times to be determined. We may adjust start times to help avoid runners overlapping at the finish.
