Early September Trail Report

With cool, crisp mornings and near-perfect afternoons, the Flathead Valley has welcomed a much needed transition to autumn. Rocky Mountain Maples are starting their annual color show with bright green leaves slowly transitioning from yellow to a vibrant red, and pretty soon, pumpkin-spiced lattes, pancakes, and beer will line local menus.
September is my favorite month in NW Montana. Summer crowds have dissipated with the return of school, and all of my favorite close-to-town destinations

are begging a visit. With perfect weather this week, I expected to see a busy Reservoir trailhead after work, but to my surprise, the parking lot was completely empty. I enjoyed solitude in Haskill Basin for two hours just as the golden light of evening returned. We are so lucky to have 42 miles of world-class trail right out our backdoor.

The trail, the foliage, and the weather are perfect right now, so get back to your favorite spot on the Whitefish Trail soon. Snow will be here before we know it!
