Whitefish Trail Awarded Grant from Keen
The Whitefish Trail was recently awarded a grant through the new Keen Effects Grant Program! Funding from this grant will support our Whitefish Interpretive Trail and Learning Pavilion project, also known as WIT. In partnership with the City of Whitefish, this project offer an incredible open-air classroom in an inspiring learning environment. WIT will provide a needed gathering place to focus education and stewardship efforts and will serve as an inspirational gateway for community recreation and conservation activities.
WIT will be constructed within a half mile walk of our most prominent trailhead at Lion Mountain and will offer ADA parking and trail access. At the center, people will learn about conservation and reconnect with the natural environment. It will be a dynamic place with opportunities to explore interpretive trails and natural wooded playgrounds and will connect to a nearby overlook. School groups, youth clubs, fitness programs, recreation groups, and other organizations will all have the opportunity to be inspired at the site which will also be available for broad community use.
Designed to support projects that fuel people’s passion for protecting the environment and promoting responsible outdoor participation, the KEEN Effect program received more than 600 applications. KEEN awarded 25 organizations globally with grants totaling $100,000. Thank you to all of our partners and to Keen Footwear!
We are still working to raise the rest of the funds necessary to complete this project. Please make a donation today to help support education in our community! Click here to donate now and specify that you would like this donation to support WIT.
