Whitefish Trail Learning Pavilion Grand Opening
May 27, 2015 - 6:00 pm - 7:00 pmFree
Whitefish Legacy Partners will celebrate the Grand Opening of the Whitefish Trail Learning Pavilion with the City of Whitefish, DNRC, and their partners on Wednesday, May 27th at 6:00 p.m. Construction was a wonderful success last fall and we now have a beautiful structure and are ready to unveil the site and begin the summer season of public education opportunities.
The Pavilion offers the community a wonderful outdoor gathering place for education activities. This year, WLP will continue to offer broad-based educational programs, an expanded guided hiking series for adults and children, as well as school field trips focused on natural history, fitness, physical science, and forestry management. The WT Learning Pavilion will also be available for educational use by the public through a reservation process with the City of Whitefish, Parks and Recreation Department.
The Rotary Club of Whitefish helped initiate the project in 2014 through a sizeable financial contribution and the group donated and constructed the Pavilion’s picnic tables. Additional funders include North Valley Hospital, Plum Creek Foundation, Keen Footwear, Ila B. Dousman Foundation, Recreational Trails Program, Montana Office of Tourism, and the Whitefish Community Foundation.
Many local contractors, businesses and volunteers contributed time and in-kind donations which helped this project come to fruition. Support from community businesses included Malmquist Construction, Montana Creative, A2Z Engineering, Artisan Construction, Casazza Brothers, Inc., Schellinger Construction, Forestoration, River Design Group, Thompson Design and Management, and Archer Excavating.
WLP is planning to construct additional interpretive loop trails at the Pavilion this summer and plans for the addition of interpretive panels in the Pavilion are underway. The public is invited to join Whitefish Legacy Partners as they unveil the site and officially open the Pavilion for outdoor education purposes.
