Beautiful spring weather has arrived in the Flathead and it’s time to get out and explore the Lion Mountain the day before Easter with a new twist; go off trail using a map and compass to find control flags. Explore hidden corners of Lion Mountain and spectacular overlooks. Join WLP and orienteering enthusiast Will Dickinson and members of the Grizzly Orienteering Club for an adventure on trail! Participants will join in a presentation at the Lion Mountain Trailhead parking with a short group walking demo. Participants will then have the option to complete a demo course of approximately 1 mile with on trail and off trail checkpoints. Treats and Awards are available for course participants. Challenge yourself on several courses from beginner to advanced.
Meet at the Lion Mountain Trailhead at 10:00 AM, be prepared for 2-3 miles of hiking (intermediate and advanced courses involve going up steep slopes) please dress appropriately for the weather and carry bear protection and a whistle. A map and compass will be provided for use, but if you have your own quality compass feel free to bring it along!
This event is free and best suitable for ages 10 and up however attendance is limited and registration is required. Registration will open 2 weeks prior to the event. Please be sure to click on the link below to create your Eventbrite account to register or use the “remind me” tab to receive notification an hour before tickets are become available. When registration opens, reserve a ticket for each member of your party.
